Henry Alley — Norma Comrada — Tim Shaner

Henry Alley is Professor Emeritus of Literature in the Honors College at the University of Oregon.  He has four novels, Through Glass (Iris Press, 1979), The Lattice (Ariadne Press, 1986),  Umbrella of Glass (Breitenbush Books, 1988), and Precincts of Light (Inkwater Press, 2010).  His story collection, The Dahlia Field (Chelsea Station Editions) has just appeared.  For nearly fifty years, such journals as Seattle Review, Virginia Quarterly Review , and Harrington Gay Men’s Quarterly have published his stories.

Norma Comrada is Courtesy Professor of Slavic Literature at the University of Oregon; she specializes in the life and work of Karel Čapek.  Her Čapek books, all from Catbird Press, include Tales from Two Pockets (a Publisher’s Weekly “Best Book of the Year”), Apocryphal Tales (Booklist starred: “A radiant volume”), Cross Roads and Karel Čapek: Life and Work (both given a cover review in the Times Literary Supplement.)  She also contributed most of the new translations for Toward the Radical Center: a Karel Čapek Reader (Entertainment Weekly, A+).  In January, 2015, she received the Karel Čapek Medal from the Společnost bratří Čapků (Čapek Brothers Society).

Tim Shaner is the author of the poetry collection Picture X (Airlie Press 2014). His work has appeared in The Poetic Labor Project, Plumwood Mountain (Australia), Colorado Review, The Claudius App, Jacket, The Rialto (UK), Ambit (UK) and elsewhere. He has an MA in Creative Writing from Antioch University (London) and a Ph.D. from SUNY-Buffalo’s Poetics Program. He teaches writing at Lane Community College in Eugene, Oregon. His first novel I HATE FICTION is due out in 2018 by Spuyten Duyvil Press.
